Keep the bills and records organized
Save itemized bills, explanations of benefits, payment notices, and collection letters. Note the provider, service date, and amount billed. Keep copies even when a bill is submitted to insurance or paid. Tell the attorney about outstanding balances and payment arrangements.
Different coverage can serve different purposes
Health insurance and auto medical payments coverage are different products. Medical payments coverage may pay eligible accident medical expenses up to its limit regardless of fault. Coverage, exclusions, and reimbursement questions depend on the relevant policy and circumstances.
Do not assume the injury claim has paid the bill
An open injury claim does not itself establish that a provider has been paid or that a collection deadline is paused. Ask the provider and applicable insurer about account status. Share notices with your attorney rather than ignoring them.
Discuss reimbursement and liens early
Some payments or treatment arrangements can create reimbursement or lien issues when a case resolves. Bring related agreements and notices to the firm. Discuss how these obligations may affect a proposed settlement distribution. Ask your medical provider about care; an attorney evaluates the legal claim, not your treatment needs.
