What is the offer intended to resolve?
Ask whether the offer concerns vehicle damage, injuries, or multiple claims. Obtain the written offer and proposed release. The wording matters, including which parties are released and which rights may be affected.
Compare the offer with the information available
Organize treatment records, medical bills, wage information, and other losses. Explain whether treatment is continuing and what remains uncertain. A proposed settlement should be discussed in light of your facts rather than compared only with someone else’s advertised result.
Gross recovery is different from take-home money
Attorney fees, case costs, and any medical liens or reimbursement obligations can affect the amount a client receives. Ask for an explanation of the applicable agreement and how the proposed distribution would be calculated. A published settlement amount is not a promise about another case.
Questions to ask before signing
What claims does this release close? What treatment or work information is still missing? Are there related insurance claims? How are outstanding bills or liens being addressed? How much would I receive after applicable deductions? Bring the documents to a lawyer for advice before making a final decision.
